CPJ First Aid Videos & Safety Training
The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) is an independent, nonprofit organization that promotes press freedom worldwide. They defend the right of journalists to report the news safely and without fear of reprisal. Every year, hundreds of journalists are attacked, imprisoned, or killed. For 40 years, CPJ has been there to defend them and fight for press freedom.
The Safety Notes (https://cpj.org/safety-notes/) CPJ provides to help journalists protect themselves can also be very useful for street medics working in adversarial environments.
Journalists face the risk of serious injuries while on both dangerous and routine assignments. In situations when emergencies lead to severe injury, journalists should be prepared to deal with medical complications in order reduce the severity of injuries and to save both their lives and the lives of their colleagues. CPJ has a series of first aid videos (https://cpj.org/2018/09/first-aid-videos/) posted on their web-page, providing basic medical guidance to journalists. This is where street medics can be a valuable asset by providing medical training and resources to support journalists operating in the field.
